About Us

About Featherman Equipment

Featherman Equipment happened by accident.  We set out to raise natural meats in the 1990s as a result of our success with controlled grazing in the 80s. First an Amish neighbor invented an inexpensive tub plucker in 1995. Then in 1999 we saw some small scale equipment overseas. Knowing how much we would have appreciated more options, we were confident that there was a need for high-quality processing equipment on a homesteader’s budget. We are fortunate to live in a community of industrious Amish neighbors where we can make this happen.

About David

My journey to this 64-acres we call Wonderland, next to Poosey Conservation Area and the largest Amish community in Missouri, has taken me through overlapping periods of row crop farming, purebred cattle business, controlled grazing, and a natural meat business. I have migrated from the center of conventional agriculture to the edge of alternative agriculture.

In 1995 an Amish friend made the first home-made tub plucker which inspired me to draft and sell simple plans, one of which was the inspiration for the detailed Whizbang Plucker plan book. Then, in 1999 I imported a container of pluckers from Indonesia and introduced the Featherman Jr. to America. In 2000 an Amish neighbor and I manufactured a larger version which has evolved to today¹s Featherman Pro.
