Alice & Eventing
Alice's passion is eventing, otherwise known as the equine triathalon. This demanding sport requires that each horse/rider combination compete in 3 different disciplines: dressage, cross country jumping and stadium jumping.
Alice is currently competing her two very talented thoroughbred geldings Drink ‘Em Pretty (Luc to his friends) and Deniro’s Lad (Denny) at training level in eventing. At this level, fixed jumps are 3’3” with brush jumps up to 3’11”. The spreads (or width) of the jumps are 3’11” at the highest point and can be up to 5’11” at the base of the jump. Drops can be up to 4’7”. The cross country speed ranges from 420 to 470 meters per minute, depending on the event.
Luc took 4th out of a field of 19 at the Catalpa Corner Charity Horse Trial in August of 2008 - finishing on his dressage score. This means he had no faults on either his cross country round or his stadium round. In fact, he was the only one in the entire division (and the next higher division) to have a clean round (no faults) on stadium. Luc and Alice also came in one second under the optimum time on cross country. In the same event, Denny and Alice came in exactly, to the second, on the optimum time. They were awarded the “perfect cross country time” award for this accomplishment.
In the only other event they entered in 2008, Heritage Horse Trials, Denny’s team took the reserve award in the Central States Chronicle of the Horse Adult Team Challenge competition. This was due more from the other team members efforts than Alice and Denny’s, however!
Alice’s third thoroughbred is West Hyacinth (Westy). She is currently in foal (due 4/15/09) to Chaleon, a Holsteiner stallion. Chaleon is a very succesful competitor in the hunter divisions on the West Coast. His dynamic movement, great jumping ability and superior conformation will combine well with Westy’s excellent conformation and spectacular movement. We have high hopes for the foal’s future as a hunter breeding conformation competitor.
